Happy Popcorn month!

Its October and that means its Popcorn Poppin’ Month. A time to celebrate one of the nation’s most enduring and cherished snacks. As you can imagine here at dague popcorn. this is our favorite month of the year!

Families and friends assemble to celebrate this perennially popular delicacy as farmers go into the fields to harvest crops. We devour over 14 billion quarts of this nutritious whole grain annually, whether prepared on the stovetop, in the microwave, or as in a bag or tub commercially.

To celebrate Poppin Popcorn wants to share these fun popcorn facts with you.

  • In the past, Native Americans held that each popcorn kernel contained a spirit. Heat caused the spirit to become enraged, erupt from its dwelling, and take off as a displeased puff of steam.
  • In the West Central Mexico “Bat Cave,” the oldest popcorn ears ever found were found. How old? How does 4,000 year old popcorn sound to you? Talk about stale popcorn!.
  • How far can popcorn pop? Up to three feet in the air, popcorn kernels can shoot.
  • Where is the corn grown? The Midwest, specifically Indiana, Nebraska, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, and Missouri, is where the majority of U.S. popcorn is cultivated.
  • What is the biggest popcorn ball ever made? According to Guinness World Records 2015, the largest popcorn ball in the world was made in 2013 at the Indiana State Fair. The popcorn ball, which was made possible by Pop Weaver, Snax in Pax, and Indiana’s Family of Farmers, was 8 feet in circumference and weighted 6,510 pounds.

How Is Popcorn Made?

Popcorn would without a doubt come to mind as the Midwest’s favorite food. The nine principal popcorn-producing states in the popcorn belt region include states like Illinois and Indiana. Popcorn has been designated as the state snack of Illinois, and it is popular in the Midwest.

This is why popcorn fundraising is so successful!
